FLASKING CORNER
FLASKING BUSINESS
WELCOME

To the edition of THE FLASKERS BUSINESS.

Here we focus on flasking issues, media formulation, results, inventions and Tc lab support for growers, quickshot shortcuts, new and available technologies etc. Please check back again to see the new ideas in action and as our TC lab goes into production...!.

We have modified this area as a service to Plant tissue culture innovators and TC people.

Now- through the efforts of Orchidsasia.com-

The Flaskers Business hopes to offer a way for the orchid growers- to get and give their personal experiences with other new growers - to this end that the shared information will be of some value to one and all.

Please send your images and views by email to us at info@orchidsasia.com

What do you have to do to be a member of the new Flaskers Business ??

It is hoped that all material sent to the Flaskers Business- will be intended to be constructive and offered " In Good Will" and that will keep everyone happy.

What can you do to help Dr. Ed for his time and work with the Flaskers Business ??
Dr. Ed likes to grow species orchids and so why don't you collect a few named species seed pods and mail them . To get that- write a email to the him through this little publication- Please try to correctly name the seed you send so when it germinates-- it is of some small value. Exchange seeds and spores and sedling material and try some unknown propagation route to get to an innovative sphere.

What is the best way to send small amounts of dry orchid seed through the postal services??

Dr. Ed has found that if one makes a little package of paper and folds the inner tissue paper into a small package and again places that tissue paper package in another folded paper pack- it will ship easily. - such a package can be labeled - Small Package- of NO commercial value- orchid seeds- and when placed in a paper envelope with proper postage attached- that it will arrive in usable condition.

Please do not use any form of PLASTIC as a padding- Orchid seed- in transit need to have air circulate around them while in the mails and the use of plastic as a cushion often lets the seed develop molds and spoil in shipment.

Please send us your thoughts to Orchidsasia for future publication. Question-
What simple orchid propagation media have you worked with that can be made from local materials??? Many of the growers use the ever reliable medias supplied by the Sigma Chemical Co. in St. Louis, Mo. Sigma uses the trade name of " Phytamax" and when one uses these for seed germination or replate uses- the results are quite consistent.

A rather good and simple media for those seeds that germinate quickly comes from a grower in the UK.- Try this for simplicity
To make 1 liter of growing media.

Take 1/4 tsp standard slow release fertilizer 20-20-20
400 mg Calcium nitrate
1 ppm Niacine
1 ppm Thiamine
4 oz. White sugar
8 gms Agar Ph to 5.2
Another good simple media for replate work-
To make 1 liter replate media
1/4 tsp standard slow release fertilizer 20-10-10
400 mg calcium nitrate
1 ppm niacine
1 ppm Thiamine 1 ppm NAA
100 gms ripe banana puree
10 gms sugar
10 gms agar Ph to 5.6
