VANILLA PLANTATIONS

SHADE GROWING OF VANILLA

SHIMOGA VANILLA FARM A EXPLORATION

Located in the interior Kranataka near to the Jog falls is our place caled shimoga where we cultivate some part of vanilla plants and where our mother plants nursery is located.. In the Areca supari belt most of the arecanut trees are used as trainers for new vanilla and vanilla and areca have great affinity to each other.

In this view one can see the linear view of the vanilla growing system with Glyricidia plants as rows.

Another system of vanilla under shade net. Here stone pillars of 5 ft size are used for the support with wire ropes acting as the longitudinal support for the vines which needs to be coiled.

Typical view of the growth of the vanilla vines and see how the vines are mixing with each other

Weed management becomes a major problem under shade cultivation and that is why we advise use of wood shavings as mulching..
